Today wasn't the happiest of days for Matt and I. This is Deacon. Matt's dog of 9 years. Matt got him for Christmas when he was 17. When Deacon was only a couple years old he got hit by a car. He survived but had a metal replacement hip. It never slowed him down though. He had a lot of problems in the time I knew him. He had had a couple of tumors that weren't cancerous that he had removed to name a few. After getting home from Grandma's this morning I received a call from my brother-in-law Kenny. He asked me to have Matt call Greg, Matt's stepdad. He said it was important. I didn't think anything of it. Figured it was something silly. A couple minutes later Matt got off the phone and said that they were putting Deacon down because he had lung cancer. It took me a while to really believe what was happening. Matt and I had been out at his parents house not to long ago and Deacon seemed perfectly fine. I tried to find out if there was anything I could do to no avail. Matt and I headed out to the vet where Deacon and Matt's parents were. When we got there Matt's parents told us he hadn't been eating very well and he started breathing funny so they brought him in. When I first saw him I just burst out crying, I couldn't believe it. He looked like he had lost a lot of weight. He had extra skin hanging from his stomach, but other than that he seemed normal to me. He wagged his tail when we walked in and did his Deacon grin. He was just walking around loving everyone in the room. We spent about five minutes with him before they took him in a room. I couldn't go in there and watch him die. So I went outside and walked around. Matt and Greg went in with him. I couldn't believe how quick it was. Matt and Greg walked outside with only two minutes having passed. Matt was having a hard time when he walked out. It was hard for him to watch his dog die. It would be for anyone. Matt took that picture right before they put him down. Matt and I had been looking forward to the day where we could have a large enough place for Deacon to live with us. The lung cancer came on really fast. Within a couple of weeks. When they took the X-Rays they said they could barely see his lungs there was so much cancer. His lungs would have soon collapsed. July doesn't seem to ever be a good month for Matthew and his family. Just a couple weeks before this Jacque had to be put down too. Greg's border collie. He was a great dog too. Matt and I were able to say goodbye to him luckily. He had developed a huge tumor underneath his tongue. He couldn't even drink any water. We will miss you Deacon and Jacque. You were such amazing and loving dogs with the cutest personalities. We love you.

I am sad for you guys. It was always fun to see Deacon.
I'm pretty sure that is one of the saddest thing I have ever read! It's amazing how pets are such a big part of a family. I'm sorry and I hope you and Matt are ok.
